Character

James 3:13 says, "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom." People define others by how they act. Our actions express precisely who we are. Oliver Goldsmith an English author said, "You can preach a better sermon with your life that with your lips." In other words, no matter what words you say, how you act defines who you are. Your character is you most valued quality, and shows your personality, your wisdom, your integrity, and you maturity. The honor society believes that these traits are vitally important and convey your education and your servant hood. Talents and looks pale in comparison to the true value of your character.

In Christ we are a "new creation," and our character should illustrate that. We are to be living examples of what Christ is, our actions reflecting him more and more as we mature as Christians. We should always be striving towards excellence, and the epitome of excellence is Christ. As we define ourselves as honor's society members, Christians, and even Calhoun Christian students, we need to reflect the right character: and that is Christ himself.

I challenge each one of you to try to be all you can be because the quality of your character is all that will leave a lasting impression in the long run. The word "Christian" means "little Christ"  and if we classify ourselves this way, this is precisely what we must strive to be. Our actions speak much louder that anything we could ever say, so we must do all we can to be the best possible, more like Christ. 1 John 2:6 says, "Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did."
