High school at Calhoun Christian School prepares students for successful engagement in post-secondary opportunities, whether they attend a four-year university, study a trade, join the military or become part of the workforce. Our goals for CCS students are to prepare them to be lifelong learners, curious about the world around them, able to solve problems, and make wise decisions. Calhoun Christian School is dedicated to academic excellence for all our students. We believe that all children can be successful, and we are committed to challenging all students to do their best.
The high school academic program is organized on a 7-block schedule. Students take seven 50-minute classes every day for the full semester. The maximum course load is 3 ½ credits each semester, with the potential for additional credits for those students who attend the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center for part of their coursework.
While teaching the essential subject areas of math, science, history and language arts, high school students at Calhoun Christian School are challenged to gain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Bible. They are taught how to apply a Biblical Worldview and essential Biblical values to the world around them. Most importantly, Calhoun Christian School students are able to understand and articulate the eternal implications of the Christian faith and are taught to engage, evaluate and defend their faith with respect and love.
Calhoun Christian teaches our students the value of service in the walk of every believer. Students are required to exercise their unique gifts to demonstrate their love for God by actively engaging in acts of service with compassion for all the image-bearers they encounter. They are required to participate in four community service outreach projects each school year, including a culminating mission trip. Daily, students are asked to demonstrate service to one another by helping to keep our school clean.
Calhoun Christian students work hard academically and it shows in our national test scores: the majority of our high school students score above the national average on the SAT test.
Our graduates receive thousands of dollars in scholarships every year, and have been accepted at such universities and colleges as Adrian, Anderson, Calvin, Cedarville, Central Michigan, Cornerstone, Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Illinois Tech, Indiana Wesleyan, Spring Arbor, Lee, Loyola, Moody Bible, Wheaton, Texas A&M, Trinity International, Olivet, Purdue, Olivet Nazarene, Michigan, Michigan State, Western Michigan, and Kellogg Community College. Several of our graduates also have chosen to dedicate their lives in service to our country by joining the military.
Optional Academic Programs
Math & Science Center
CCS students who also attend the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center (BCAMSC) may enroll in both accelerated and AP courses at the Center. Students attending the BCAMSC must first gain a qualifying score on an entrance exam and be part of an interview process during 8th grade to be eligible to attend during their 9th – 12th grade years of high school. BCAMSC students attend the Center for their science, math, and computer courses, and they attend Calhoun Christian for English, foreign language, social studies, visual and performing arts, PE, health, and elective credits. Grades earned in a select few BCAMSC courses are calculated on a 5.0 scale, reflecting the rigor and acceleration of these advanced courses.
Dual Enrollment into College Courses
11th and 12th grade students are eligible to dual enroll in college courses and earn college credit while attending high school. If the college credit is not required for high school graduation, a student may elect to omit the college course from their high school transcript.
Calhoun Area Career Center
The Calhoun Area Career Center (CACC) provides career and technical training to 11th and 12th grade students for part of their school day. Within some of these programs, students also dual enroll in college and earn college credit. Students attending the CACC typically receive elective credit for their program coursework; however, there is the potential to receive core subject credit as defined by their program curriculum and honored by their sending school. Many programs have articulation agreements with select colleges.

High School Teaching Staff

As an educator at CCS God has given me an amazing opportunity to help train our youth to have a fire and passion for Him. I love that I am able to help guide, lead, and encourage students to walk and grow in their spiritual life, building their identity on a solid Biblical foundation. The more I experience and learn, the better teacher I become. This is also the mindset that I encourage for my students to adopt, look for the learning potential in every opportunity. I desire for students to leave my classroom with a thorough knowledge of the subject area, positive self-efficacy, the building of a Godly identity, and the pursuit of an intimate relationship with the Creator. Through my energy, fun-loving attitude, hard work, prayer, and continuous learning, I will create an atmosphere where students will be successfully challenged to grow.

Being a teacher is like participating in a never-ending treasure hunt! Helping students discover the treasure in themselves, in others, and in god’s world brings exciting results to the classroom and helps equip students to be successful contributors in every facet of life. I love teaching K-12 students new computer skills and how to integrate this useful knowledge into their everyday life. In addition, my time spent in Bible class is some of the most precious hours in my week as I watch students continue to grow in their Godly identity and destiny. As the high school Academic Advisor, I find it exciting to watch secondary students take what they have learned throughout 13 years of school and direct their energy and knowledge into post-secondary and career plans. Lastly, the capstone to the annual service and mission work at CCS is the senior mission to the Dominican Republic. I am so thankful for the opportunity to help lead this trip each year and to watch students better understand God’s world and their role in it.
