Middle school is often a place students take their foundational elementary skills and start to shape their own personalities and skills. Middle school can often be challenging for both parents and students, as students are developing physically and must learn to balance those changes as well as to become more independent. Calhoun Christian School offers a safe and loving environment for our middle school students to begin this journey to adulthood, where our amazing teachers and staff help guide and direct them.
Calhoun Christian Middle School continues to develop life-long learners, helping students to remain curious about the world around them while also developing skills to solve problems and make wise informed decisions. We recognize the need for middle school students to have consistent academic support from a lead teacher while experiencing varied instructional expectations from multiple teachers. We instruct students on how to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their own academic achievement. We also support their social and emotional changes with intentional instruction and Biblical guidance. These are just a few examples of how, in all ways, we endeavor to provide meaningful middle school education.
Calhoun Christian Middle School Students are Academically Excellent
Middle school students at Calhoun Christian School are offered academic challenges to help them prepare for secondary education. One such highlight is our Accelerated Math Program (AMP), offered to students in Grades 6 to 8. At the end of Grade 5, students can test to enter AMP, and if qualified, will take advanced math courses through the rest of middle and high school. This can help prepare our students for a slot in the BCPS Math & Science Center, which are available to Calhoun Christian School students should they be interested. Our high school is academically rigorous, and our middle school is constructed to prepare our students to excel in high school.
Middle School Year End Trip
Our students look forward to a historical and academic, but fun, end of year trip. Our social studies instructor prepares a long list of adventures for students to learn, build community, and enjoy life together in a week-long trip away. Prior years have taken the students to Traverse City, Mackinac Island, and Mackinaw City, to name a few.
Biblical Studies
Most importantly, our students learn an apologetic (which means "defense") based approach to Christianity in their daily bible class, with the intent of helping develop students to think critically about the Creator, His people, and our role in creation.
At Calhoun Christian School, we purposefully bridge the gap between elementary school and high school. We recognize where middle school students have come from, embrace where they are now, and prepare them for where they will be going in the future. At each grade level, we minister to not only the academic abilities of our students, but also to their social/emotional awareness, their need for physical movement, and to the ever important growth in their spiritual relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Middle School Teaching Staff

It is a privilege to teach in a Godly environment that encourages success. It is essential to teach students how to relate the English language to our Christian faith in order to give learning purpose and direction. All children deserve a chance to learn, to grow, and to succeed no matter the age group. Middle school is a time to determine and to seek understanding for oneself. I am excited to help students determine who they are in Christ and how that relates to the rest of the world. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12) I have been blessed beyond understanding to be able to teach English at CCS, a subject I not only love, but also am passionate about.

The Lord has truly blessed me by giving me the opportunity to work with children. I consider it an honor that God has given me the opportunity to share in the lives of our middle school students. I am especially grateful for the unique opportunity to work with students for not just one year, but for their entire four-year middle school experience. It is my desire to partner with my students and their parents to help each child reach their full academic and spiritual potential. It is my prayer that the lessons we teach in class will help my students live the lives God has called them to live and follow the plans He has for their lives.
